New Eats, East of the Eastside

Good news for those of us looking for something new to eat out in the Eastermostlands, two new restaurants have opened at Gilman Village. I haven't tried them yet, but a quick look at their menus puts them on my must try soon list.

Mackey's Dimsum and Chinese Restaurant (316 N.@. Gilman Blvd. 425-391-7200) has opened in the old Sweet Additions location. Open 7 days a week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., they serve DIM SUM the entire time! Their dimsum menu includes the standard favorites starting at $2.50 a small plate, such as steam BBQ buns or chicken feet. $3.00 for a medium plate, such as pot stickers or eggrolls. $3.50 for large plates, such as dumplings or sticky rice. $5.00 for special plates, such as Shanghai steamed dumplings or Deep-fried Prawn Dumpings.

Mackey's seems like a strange name for a Chinese restaurant, but the rest of their menu is definitely classic Chinese with old standards such as General Tso Chicken and Moo Shu Pork. However, there are some very curious dishes that I can't wait to try, such as Chef Special Coffee Pork Chop and Mango Chicken. The main menu ranges from $10 - $16, with a special Peking Duck for two for $28.00.

Just across the parking lot, the Flat Iron Grill (317 N.W. Gilman Blvd. 425-657-0373) has taken over the Iris Grill's location and deck. An Argentian steak house, they serve a strange assortment of starters and entrees, in addition to classic Argentian grill plates. Starters start at $7 for a Chori-Pan (chorizo sausage, Hawaiian snacker roll, salsa criolla, & chimichurri) to a $17 Foie & Apples. They also serve dinner salads, including an interesting sounding Quinoa Salad for $11. I can't quite figure out the connection of Argentina to Jambalya, but they offer it.

Their bar is open for happy hour from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and sports a HUGE longhorn skull. I'll leave the bar selection report to my husband.

There's a third newish restaurant in Gilman, just the other side of the parking lot, Billy Bob's BBQ. I haven't seen a menu from there or know of anyone who's eaten there, so can't say much more then that they are there. I'll post reviews when my budget allows me to eat out again.
